A comprehensive year-long initiative that supports agri-food micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)

About AgriFood Enterprise Program

The AgriFood Enterprise Program (AFEP) is a comprehensive initiative that supports agri-food micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana to unlock the full potential of their businesses and catalyze food innovations. AFEP is a partnership between the Africa Skills Hub, the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP), the World Bank, and the Ministry of Finance.

The program focuses on innovations using indigenous African ingredients and allows entrepreneurs to develop and launch sustainable agri-businesses, scale up, and access local, regional, and national markets. This program is linked to Sustainable Development Goal 2, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security, and improve nutrition.

Besides providing specialized training workshops, AFEP will also provide tailored mentorship, networking opportunities, and industry exposure to agri-food business owners to scale their operations.

The program is implemented in two phases: an incubation phase and an acceleration phase.

Incubation Phase

The incubation phase focuses on helping early-stage agri-food MSMEs to develop and launch sustainable agri-businesses. The program  provides participants with the following:

  • Mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts
  • Specialized workshops on food technology, business planning, marketing, etc.
  • Networking opportunities with potential investors and partners

Acceleration Phase

The acceleration phase focuses on supporting more mature agri-food MSMEs to scale their businesses and achieve commercial success. The program provides participants with the following:

  • Specialized workshops on business development.
  • Access to funding and other resources
  • Networking opportunities with potential investors and partners
  • Mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts

The AgriFood Enterprise Program is expected to have a significant impact on the agri-food industry in Ghana. The program will help to create a more vibrant and sustainable industry, which will benefit businesses, consumers, and the economy as a whole.
