GIZ-MIGRATION AND EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION

About GIZ-MIGRATION AND EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION

Africa Skills Hub piloted the Migration and Employment Promotion Project in partnership with GIZ, as part of their Programme for Sustainable Economic Development.

The intervention aimed to train 60 returned migrants and unemployed youth in the Volta Region in readily available demand-driven vocational and technical skill areas so they can engage in entrepreneurial ventures later.

Additionally, the 6 months of skills training provided entrepreneurship capacity-building training for 500 indirect beneficiaries, individuals in the North Tongu District, Volta region who have managed to start some businesses however small to enable them to revamp these businesses.

The vocational/technical skills training in Tailoring, Hairdressing, and Graphic Design and its subsequent in-kind support are designed to help start up a business. The start-up coaching support will help returning migrants re-establish themselves in their communities with a sustainable employment focus and significantly curb irregular migration by giving opportunities to unemployed youth.

The project beneficiaries trained were given sewing machines and hair dryers along with certificates honoring their dedication to the initiative.

About 80% of them are expected to commence business 3 months after the skills training to extend the knowledge acquired to create more impact in their communities.
